Cleveland’s German Saturday School is a venue for families, who enjoy to share and learn the German language and heritage. It gives children and parents a unique opportunity to find joy in many German activities. Currently the school provides two classrooms, which invite children to participate in speaking, reading, writing and playing in the German language.

Movement and creativity are encouraged during games and arts/craft time. Each session ends with a casual gathering during snack time. German Saturday School meets every other Saturday from 9:00 am until 11:00 am in the Church Street Annex of Lee University. Our mid-term goals include introducing weekly classes.

The curriculum in both classes follows closely the textbook of Tamburin 1 by Hueber Publishing. However, the actual textbook is only used by the students in the Elementary Grades. The students of the Kindergarten Grade enjoy a more playful approach to the same academic objectives.

Spearheaded by Lisa Eulo (German & French yeacher at Walker Valley High School), the German Saturday School provides a non-threatening learning environment and an immersion experience.

We are convinced this program will increasingly become a vital component for the intercultural development of our community: Locals with German roots and German expatriates (Volkswagen, Wacker Chemie, etc.) alike have been asking for an opportunity to expose their children to a social group in which they can practise and further develop their German language skills.

The German Saturday School in partnership with Mosaic/Ocoee Region Multicultural Services (ORMS) is answering this community need. While the GSS is currently geared toward pre-teen and teen learners, we aim at expanding the program to other age groups in the future.

=====================================================
